Filament wound tube is a glass-fiber and epoxy composite tube made by winding resin-impregnated reinforcement around a mandrel. It is used when an electrical assembly needs a rigid insulating sleeve with good mechanical strength, dimensional stability and low moisture absorption. The tube can be supplied for electrical protection components and other custom machined parts.
When to choose filament wound fiberglass tube
Filament winding is a practical choice for long, concentric tubes and for projects that require repeatable wall thickness. Buyers commonly specify it for fuse assemblies, arrester sleeves, link sticks, earth sticks, spacers, coil forms and other power-protection components. The material can be sawed, cut, drilled and machined; the final process should be checked against the customer’s drawing and tolerance requirements.

Values in the table are a starting point for technical discussion, not a substitute for an approved datasheet. Please send the required standard, test method, operating temperature, voltage, dimensions and tolerance so the engineering team can confirm the correct grade.
Applications in electrical protection
Typical applications include high- and medium-voltage fuse components, current-limiting fuse boxes, arrester sleeves, insulation supports, spacers, coil forms and custom sleeves for power equipment. For a new design, check dielectric clearance, creepage distance, wall thickness, concentricity, machining allowance, moisture exposure and the assembly’s temperature cycle.

Frequently asked questions
What is a filament wound tube?
It is made by winding continuous glass fiber impregnated with epoxy or other resin around a mandrel, then curing, giving high strength-to-weight and consistent electrical insulation.
Where are filament wound tubes used?
They are used in fuse bodies, insulation structures, shafts and mechanical-electrical parts that need high hoop strength and low weight.
