Vulcanized Fibre Composite Fiberglass tube

Vulcanized fiber composite fiberglass tube for fuse cutouts
Vulcanized fiber composite fiberglass tube for fuse cutouts

Vulcanized fiber composite fiberglass tube combines a vulcanized fiber inner tube with a filament-wound glass-fiber and epoxy outer layer. It is designed for electrical protection parts that need a machinable inner surface and a stronger composite shell. The construction, winding angle, resin system and final dimensions should be selected from the customer’s drawing and test requirements.

Why use a vulcanized fiber composite fiberglass tube?

The fiber core supports electrical insulation and arc-related applications. The fiberglass/epoxy layer adds structural support and allows the tube to be designed around the required outside diameter, wall build-up and handling loads. This construction is commonly considered for high-voltage drop-out fuse boxes, fuse cutout components, sleeves and other power-protection assemblies.

Applications and design checks

Before selecting the tube, confirm the fuse box or equipment type, voltage class, creepage and clearance, arc exposure, temperature cycle, moisture condition, required concentricity and machining tolerances. Ask for the applicable dielectric, mechanical and arc-related test methods. A composite tube should not be approved by color or appearance alone.

  • Inside diameter, outside diameter, total wall thickness and cut length
  • Core-to-shell interface requirements and permitted layer variation
  • Machined holes, slots, threads, shoulders or wire-tie features
  • Surface coating, inspection documents and sample approval criteria
  • Annual quantity, packaging and traceability requirements

For a single-material core tube, compare the vulcanized fiber tube. For a filament-wound epoxy design without a vulcanized fiber core, see the filament wound tube. To request a sample or quotation, use the contact page.

Frequently asked questions

What is a vulcanized fibre composite fiberglass tube?
It combines a vulcanized fibre core with a fiberglass overwrap, giving the machinability of vulcan fibre plus the strength and arc performance of fiberglass.

How do I choose between this and plain vulcanized fiber tube?
Choose the composite when the design needs higher arc handling or mechanical load while keeping a machinable inner bore.
